Best. Delivery. EVER!

Sunday, January 30th, 2005

As the few people that read this site know, I’ve been delivering pizzas on Saturday nights for the past year and half. My friend Andrew, a manager there, is quitting and so I decided to quit as well. Next Saturday is my last day. Anyway, I was working tonight, driving around in the snow (which I enjoy), and the last delivery that I took was the best delivery that I’ve ever been a part of- and probably ever will. Here’s a transcript of the beginning:

Bryan: Hi. Your total is $24.95.
Guy: Ok. Cool. Been busy?
Bryan: Yeah. The snow makes us move slower.
Guy: Yeah. Hey, how are your dancing moves?
Bryan: What?
Guy: How well can you dance?
Bryan: Uh, not very well…
Guy: Have you ever heard of Dance Dance Revolution?
Bryan: Yeah.
Guy: Wanna come in and play? We’ll double your tip.
Bryan: Sure!

I proceded to be introduced to everybody at the party, and since there were no more deliveries when I left plus I was quitting anyway (what were they going to do, fire me?) plus it was Andrew’s last Saturday managing- I didn’t feel bad about doing it. I played against a cute girl - and lost. They kept saying how I was the coolest pizza delivery guy that they’d met and I kept saying that it was the best delivery that I’d ever had. When I left they apologized for the lack of naked chicks, and then tipped me $14.

Best. Delivery. EVER!

Nerd Party

Friday, January 28th, 2005

I’m making this post from nerd party. I haven’t been to nerd party the past two weeks since I’ve had so much CIS work to do, but this week I felt that our lab was far enough along that I was able to take my laptop and work on it here. I’m really pleased with my laptop purchase, I bought it for ~$550 over the summer. It has been worth every penny. I usually load my favorite TV shows onto my laptop and watch them while I’m eating lunch on campus. Unfortunately though, the era of my frivolous purchases is coming to and end. I’m becoming more budget-conscious, since I’m quitting my weekend pizza delivery job and CIS has limited the amount of time that I’m able to spend at work during the week. I’m going to cut down on how much I spend per week, and I’m not going to make any stupid impulse buys- at least that’s the plan now. We’ll see if it works out that way or not.

CIS 560

Wednesday, January 26th, 2005

Man, when I switched the site over to wordpress, I promised myself that I’d update more, and this is my somewhat-lame attempt at that. Anyway, one of the courses that I’m taking this quarter - CIS 560 - is taking up all of my time. I’m having a hard time getting in the hours that I’d like to at work, and luckily my other classes this quarter don’t require much out-of-class effort. Also, I’m trying to get our router working using Linux, and it’s being really annoying, to say the least. I’d like to just do the smart thing and use smoothwall, but that only supports one processor, and doesn’t support PPTP VPNs, which I’d like to use. If you have any advice for me, please leave a comment! Oh well, now that I’m finally on a somewhat-normal sleep schedule I need to go to sleep- I’m tired and I have to wake up early to work on the CIS lab!

Grrr…

Look Who’s Back

Friday, January 21st, 2005

You thought that I was never going to post again. You thought that I had given up on this whole website thing. Well, you were wrong! I’ve been working on this new design. Granted, it’s not the best, but I’m a coding person, not a graphics design guy. Speaking of coding, unlike the last version of this website, I didn’t do most of the coding. That’s being handled by WordPress. Anyway, all of the old posts aren’t really compatible with the new posting system, and since nobody reads this site anyway I’ve just archived them here. I’m still working on a way to post pictures with this new system, so you’ll just have to wait a while longer for those. I’m not mentioning any names (Megan), but people have been getting on my case about the pictures. Also gone is the bulletin board. You’ll notice the comments feature at the bottom of the page here, and that will take care of that. Ok, well, have fun with the new site, and let me know if anythings screwy happens. After all, this is my first attempt at CSS.
